Mother with Eggs

2022

Bronze
215 x 61 x 91 cm

The wolf is traditionally associated with fertility and protection. The most famous wolf of antiquity, of course, is the animal that suckled and reared Romulus and Remus, later founders of Rome. In Atelier van Lieshout’s version, however, the wolf does not watch over two human children, but over four golden eggs. They promise new life and glow and gleam with hope.
